AWB Fallout

I am now taking bets on which ministers will be given the boot as a result of the AWB scandal.

Mark Vaile - Minister for Trade (NP)

The Hon. Mark Vaile - Minister for Trade is the current favourite at 7:1. If it is revealed that the government was involved or had knkowledge knowledge of the kickbacks paid to Saddam, Howard will surely take it as an opportunity to futher weaken the Nats by landing the blame on their leader.

Peter McGauran - Minister for Agriculture (NP)

The Hon. Peter McGauran - Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is close behind at 9:1. If Howard tries to stick the blame on Vaile, McGauran could step in to save the day for his party and take the fall.

Alexander Downer - Minister for Foreign Affairs (LP)

The Hon. Alexander Downer - Minister for Foriegn Affairs is a slim outside chance, at 50:1. Downer is way too chummy with Johnny to have to worry about anything, although if any really damning evidence comes out then he could feasibly be doing all his brown-tonguing from the back benches from now on.

John Howard - PM

The Hon. John Winston Howard - master of cunning, chief puppeteer, PM of Australia - comes in at a very long 1000:1. The man whose very name is synonymous with misleading the Australian public, with such classic catchphrases as: There’s no way that a GST will ever be part of our policy. Never ever. It’s dead.; I can’t comprehend how genuine refugees would throw their children overboard.; and The Australian government knows that Iraq still has chemical and biological weapons and that Iraq wants to develop nuclear weapons. The AWB scandal is simply one more lie to add to his CV. Come next election, the Australian public will have forgotten all about it anyway.

So what is my bet on? I reckon we’ll have a shakeup of the AWB board of directors, the debate about getting rid of the single desk system will fizzle out, and then the media can go back to its usual tabloid reporting of credit card scams, uproar over the traffic chaos, and reality television put-downs. This will leave Howard free to plan his next big policy shakeup - banning abortions, scrapping social security, or boosting GST so that NSW residents can send more of their tax dollars to other states.

Of course the real losers out of this are the Australian wheat farmers - the winners will be the oversubsidised inefficent American wheat farmers whose two-timing double-crossing government will seize the opportunity to shaft its “ally” Australia by grabbing Australia’s share of wheat sales to Iraq.

How you can possibly think that that teflon-coated bunch of political thugs in the current Australian Government will lose out?

Little Johnny Howard will worm his way out of this scam as well.
Like he has with all the other bullshit he’s been involved in.
He’s learnt from the best. That’s why they call him BONSAI - he just a Little Bush…
