Thank you for your continued support of the George W. Bush quote generator. In response to a couple of comments, I have modified the program to include a citation so that you can verify for yourself the accuracy of these quotes.
I’d also like to add a couple of hat-tips. The generator runs using Pascal Hakim’s excellent fortune program, together with Don Seiler’s Dubya module.

Yes yes, I have disabled the google plugin. Two reasons: firstly, the gadget is growing immensely popular; and secondly, my coding is so clunky that the server can no longer handle all the hits. If anyone has a solution, wants to rewrite the code, or help host the thing on their server, let me know.

Never underestimate the deficiencies of dubya!
This service is great. It would be even better if you could give some citations (where, when). That way I would have some credibility when I annoy my Republican friends with these quotes. I see that those who are gullible or war monger are so upset by George’s lame utterances. I for one thing that if Bill could be impeached for a blow job, that BOTH George Walker Bush and The Big DICK Cheney both should be impeached for incompetence and dragging our country into the toilet, let alone an illegal war, and profitting from it.

This is a great tool… It reinforces everyday to me why our world is in the state it is. It is unfortunate that the leader of the most powerful nation in the world (arguably in decline) with the capability to help so many chooses war. It is interesting that the U.S. does not have to answer to anyone (the UN general assembly, UN security council, ICC) but somehow everyone must answer to them. Not only do they not answer to anyone, there is blatant lying to get away with this illegal war.
I believe leaders like George W. Bush and the foreign policies of predecessors are to blame for 9/11, and have turned this so called “war on terrorism” into a conquest for resources to maintain the current unsustainable lifestyle we live. In saying this, it should be recognized that all Westerners have exploited these developing nations and the U.S. is not itself fully liable for these injustices; but is the predominant player in this exploitation.
It would be interesting to have the Bush administration provide the families that have lost loved ones in the “war on terror” an explanation on how one of their killers may have been trained in a US boot camp their taxes supported. Or even more importantly, how much money the state has made in the past year due to weapons proliferation with undeveloped nations, in which they fall in the wrong hands frequently. Even more disgusting, is the fact that in many cases there is a history of arming both sides of the conflict; instead of trying to mediate these wars we are better equipping each side to slaughter each other.
**By the way, if you are one of the individuals that turns to Fox news for “balanced news” keep in mind that academic studies have shown that people who watch FOX news are actually more misinformed on important issues than people who do not watch any news at all! Let alone a less partisan station. Any station that ends a news cast everyday with a countdown stating “___ days until George W Bush is re elected” is not “fair and balanced” and is most definitely not allowing you to decide, as they claim. Who knew it was professional and balanced to have Bill O’reilly yell at guests to “shut up” and cut their mic off when they disagree calmly with the Bush Administration?

If I were George W Bush, I would have this generator on my google home page. I would also have chimpomatic on my google home page. Then when I screwed up something else I would start a (day-off)raffle for the cabinet member who could predict the exact date and time that it would appear on the page. Then I would appoint Monica Lewinski to “head” the Housing and Urban Development Department. Was that a symbol and a snare drum that I just heard. Either someone got my Monica Lewinski joke or George W spoke again. I love this country.

There are few things more hilarious than politcal humor – it’s to be taken with a grain of salt however.
People forget all context when judging this President. Bush inherited a declining economy and was the first President to actually had to fight the war on terror. He also was the first President to be faced with a Katrina-type disaster. Iraq is a mess, but change in the Middle east will be paid for in blood, just like change in this country was. One of the most brutal dictators in history is gone(Saddam killed hundreds of thousands), and our country is in good shape. History will be much more kind to Bush than CNN.

Re Ken Bagwell’s comments. Indeed could not agree more regarding the political humour however when you are the most powerful man in the world the breadth of influence and the overall implications that go with this office are daunting, therefore taking a grain of salt should not be part of any process regarding this position.
However in light of the incumbents obvious abilities Mr Bush would do well to have a good sized salt mine as part of his portfolio rather than oil wells.
I’m not so sure he is the first president to face a disaster the magnitude of Katrina, President William McKinley in 1900 was there when a hurricane killed 8000 in Texas – of all places.
The many so called conquering armies that have attempted to tame Iraq and failed over the last 3 millennia, when the Brits were there the rhetoric to the public was virtually identical to today. They didn’t get anything out of it either – perhaps BP did.
As far as dictators go Kim Jong-il, Robert Mugabe, Stalin , Mao Ze-Dong to name but a few have a much worse reputation, and the latter eliminated some 50,000,000 to have his way. Sadam the worst – nah, just bad and sitting on a heap of oil.
If history is to be kind to President Bush (the second) then perhaps we will be given the grace to forget him all together, here’s hoping! Since President Bush is banking on technology to pull us through, perhaps a real time grammar and speech checker or if all else fails a bunch of erasers for the FBI!

Those of you whose comments criticise this site are missing the point. Bush should never have come to power in the first place. The USA has setup crusades against all that it deems to be undemocratic and yet your political system contains links with captains of Industry with there own greedy, short-sighted agendas pulling the strings and at the head of it all… a man who is inarticulate and scrared of anything outside his own borders.

I am certainly not a fan of George W. Bush. However, if his unintelligable vernacular was the only thing I had against him, he would be a great president and a great man. Unfortunately there are so many other things that one could point out to discredit him that it’s kind of petty and pointless to use this device to attack him. I mean, some people just have problems with words. Let’s focus our attention on the war in Iraq and the 2500+ unjustifed deaths in our armed forces due to a cause that was based on lies. Let’s discuss the un-republican like spending spree that this man has been on. As republicans, let’s please focus on what we have to do to repare the damage that this man has done to our party. Words are just words and some people just have problems conveying them. I don’t hold this against President Bush because I pick my battles; and believe me, there are many of them worthy of picking.

Caligula, the mad Roman emperor, and George Dubya have some things in common
1. The both came to power under somewhat dubious circumstances. Caligula stole the previous Emperor’s ring while he was still alive. George came to power by arrangement with the Supreme Court.
2. They both fought mythical and intangible enemies. Caligula fought the Roman god Neptune and claimed a great victory when he brought back lots of sea shells from the beach. George fights “terror” and maintains his country is at war even though there are no real enemies for Americans to fight.
3. They both incarcerate people for no significant crime. Caligula locked up a senator for constant criticism; the senator eventually ate his mattress as he had nothing to eat. On another occasion Caligula banished peopleto tiny islands and let them go mad. George sends people to Guantanamo and lets them rot in cells with not access to any real legal mechanisms.
The madness of President George is as manifest as the madness of Caligula. I just don’t know how Americans could have voted for him.

Bush is an idiot.
He’s also a deserter during a time of war (AWOL in his politically-secured stint in the Air National Guard) and was dishonorably discharged (6-month “early out” from the National Guard because they didn’t want to turn an active alcoholic loose in a multi-million dollar jet).
He has achieved nothing on his own in his entire life. Everything he’s been involved with, from Yale to the White House, has been arranged for him by his doting father.
I’m angry at Bush. but I realize I just use him to focus my anger and the people around him who are similarly using him for their own aims. This country has been sold to Big Oil, Big Pharmaceuticals, Big Weapons Makers, Big Mining and Big Banking.
Our environment and education systems have been set back decades. The poor and middle class pay more in taxes while the ultra-rich get tax breaks. We are in the midst of an unnecessary and expensive “war” to take our focus off the problems and felonies perpetrated by the Bush administration.
We have offended most of the world. I am embarrassed to call myself an American. For all of you in other countries, please know that there are large numbers of Americans who are working daily to unseat this humiliating, destructive, greedy power structure. We understand full well the separation of church (if you can call it that) and state.
Bush? Hell, he’s just a pimple on the ass of the problem.

I’ve noticed that most, if not all the Bush Quotes are from 2001 and 2002… did he hire someone new to write his speeches ?? or is he still spouting crap? I would assume that he has something prepared when speaking at these conferences or political meetings or even at interviews. Or does the problem arise when he ad-libs or voices he own thoughts ??

The more of the Bush quotes I see the more I can’t believe he was elected, I mean sort of elected. I feel the thing with the few remaining Bush supporters (in some cases with strange adulation) is that they don’t understand how not “a decided” or at least “an understander” of issues he is. He is truly a puppet president with his cronies pulling the stings. He has opinions like a lot of other ignorant people have. Think Archie Bunker.
All I can say is thank goodness the Democrats have control of Congress. If you are Christian, you believe that you should “love thy neighbor as you love thyself” – which also means not using the word “retard” in a thoughtless and hurtful way (meaning as an insult, forgetting there are actually retarded people whose families don’t appreciate this usage). It really doesn’t matter what a person is like when you meet them. What matters is the policies they support, the laws they sign into place, and the worldview, beliefs and philosophy that guide their decisions. Ted Kennedy (whom I’ve met) is a major jerk, but the legislation he supports and creates helps make people’s lives better. Shrub, on the other hand, affects this good-old-boy persona – and I do have a family member that’s good friends with him – but the policies he supports and the things he’s done as president have created much misery. Do you collect these quotes yourself, or cull the “Bushism” type sites for them? Either way, this way of providing daily quotes is excellent and helpful.
I don’t have an opinion about how intelligent he actually is (I’m lying), but at any rate his poor speaking skills give him the appearance of a dolt. This is most unfortunate, as the President is, to a large extent, the “packaging” of a country for the time he’s in office, and it’s been a long time since America’s packaging has made me want to buy! Let’s see. . .a criminal, a forgetful entertainer, a wimp, an adulterer, and this current lump of horse doody. Sorry to list the stereotypes, but that’s the way they’re seen from overseas. Taiwan has lots to learn about presenting itself as a credible country and member of the international community, too, but the USA has not proved a great model lately, though nobody dares doubt that America is, at least, a country with the “macho” attitude of a bully who will beat that doubt out of anyone who dares sneer. The USA is to national chauvinism, possibly, what Disney is to copyright protection.

Yes, we do all make mistakes ‘Yall’, but few of us have the incredible influence on the lives of the people of the world that the POTUS does. The wording of your sentence “Don`t hate the republicans because were (sic) obviously better” reminds me of many a childhood day spent in the playground at school, with the oft-heard “my dad can fight your dad!” ringing out across the throng. Ah, those were the days!

As a very curious Non-American, I find it bemusing that such a profound gob-sh1te could become president of his local bowling club nevermind his country. How can such a proud great nation have such a misguided pleboid at the helm? Are there any sane Americans still out there? Please somebody tell me that America still has people that actually have passports, that know where Belgium is ( and what Belgium is for that matter), that don’t weigh over 350 lbs, that have never appeared on Rikki Lake, Oprah or Jerry Springer(another fine American Politician), that don’t think every twelve year old should have their own hand gun, that don’t believe that all muslims are evil and that America is here to save the world?? I’m actually visiting the USA in a couple of weeks, for a hard-earned holiday. I have some good friends there and although they are dear, dear friends and people with big hearts. I love them dearly, despite the fact that until I visited their home in North Carolina in 2002, their children, then aged 11 and 13, had no idea what British currency was, no idea that their country’s history started around 1/4 mile from where I grew up, at Washington Old Hall in North East England.
Here’s a snapshot of my experiences there …
Despite the fact my friend does not work, she would take the kids to school in the car, all of a mile, and drop them off a burger and fries for lunch rather than make up a packed lunch… all 4 family members have vehicles now, in addition to the truck her husband uses for his job and a vastly over-sized shiny pick-up truck with cow-horns atop for showing-off purposes. (The kind that makes up for a lack of something else).
I spent 6 weeks putting together a CD Rom with photographs and historical details about places we share – Northumberland County, Durham City; I even researched religion in my area despite the fact I’m an atheist, so I could make a connection with the kids in the school where I was to deliver this presentation. I donated them examples of our currency, everything from a penny up to a £50.00 note ($100 at today’s rate) in the hope it would mean something to them. Afterwards, the first questions I was asked was….”Ma’am, how long does it take you to do your hair?”, “Y’all have McDonalds over there?” and “Where do you buy your clothes?” I, along with the history teacher, despaired.
The over-consumption ethic pervades the lives of ordinary Americans to the point I was fed 2 huge hotdogs at a time for lunch (“Ya can’t have just one! They’re soooo good!” We stopped at Krispy-Kreme on the way to a weekend break and she bought not one doughnut each, but a box of 24 between 5 of us. Very little was home-cooked, everything was take-out and deep fried at that. By the time my 2 weeks was over, my body was crying out for fresh fruit and on arrival at the airport I devoured an apple and 2 oranges from the cafe. I could have cried. My friend morbidly is obese and will never be anything else. Although it’s destroyed any self-confidence she once had, she patently doesn’t know how to be any different.
Several times I have invited the whole family over here to stay with me so they can see how we live – my friend came wit her youngest son once and lost nearly a stone (14 pounds for Americans!) in 10 days, despite eating constantly and never being hungry – it was all fresh, healthy, home-cooked food. But her husband always has a ‘good reason’ not to come. I think it‘s fear.
Until American people are no-longer brainwashed from early childhood with recitals of the Pledge of Allegiance (to a FLAG!), some of them will always remain under its spell. This is a sad reality and not one to blame them for – it’s the regime they live under. Regime…now there’s a word Bush relishes. Is it time for a change?

Basically because the two adjectives (Normal&Amercian) seem to be contradictory.
How sad…
I just wanted to add that the word “gobshite” should never be maligned. It’s a great word, an Irish word and a word in fact, that only a gobshite would indeed malign. Possibly Ironic? Or should I really be using the “I” word with Americans around? You know how they struggle terribly with the very concept.

I don’t like to associate the word ‘normal’ with anyone at all. It implies there is a majority that are identical and that just does not exist. Everyone is unique, but influenced by their culture, surroundings and experience. In my opinion, it is this that has created the exaggerated lifestyle of ‘America’.
I am still looking forward to my holiday and meeting ‘real’ Americans. At the end of the day, we are all the same inside.

WW1 and WW2 are no justification for the current state of modern affairs as far as the Yanks are concerned.
The same could be said about Russia. Without Russian military persistance, the Nazis would have been alot more successful. I don’t hear anybody thankin the Russkies for their support in the great wars.

julie: i am a healthy american who has good eating habits, i walk whenever possible, and when i eat donuts (rarely) i get only 1! i excersize for about 30mins to 2 1/2 hours EVERYDAY, i am energetic and ell my food is home made. iam a vegetarian, i DO NOT say “y’all”, and i am not fat.

I understand you completely – I don’t see it as a rant, rather a statement which I accept fully. Fortunately, you are not alone by any means; there are countless others too.
It’s comforting to know that, as I suspected, not everyone is drugged with the pledge of allegiance, but use their own minds and rationality. I wish more people would do the same.
As far as Bush is concerned, my feeling is that the world outside America (and there IS one, George!) perceives him as the personification of everything that is bad about the country; he’s greedy, consumerist, poorly educated despite his ‘qualifications’, ignorant and belligerent. He is incapable of communicating with others at his level and they are too scared of his power to make a point if it.
Mr Bush is the self-appointed guardian of the globe and of the Christian faith. Another thing he was not elected for. ‘Freedom’ and ‘Democracy’ are dirty words when being spat from George’s mouth.

America is full of contradictions, we have low ranking primary through high school education when compared to the rest of the industrialized world. But we also have the best science programs in the world. Our Ivy League universities are only rivaled by 4 European universities. We have nutty conservatives and nutty liberals. And the ydid have the parts to make nuclear missiles, it’s just that there were no completed ones. And don’t say it was for a fucking nuclear energy plant. Weapons-grade uranium, which is what was recovered after the beginning of the war, is way more expensive to make than fuel-grade uranium, and it wouldnt work in an energy plant anyway.

Just to clarify the mass Non-american idiots that are SO worried about Bush being re-elected, He can’t be. He’s at his max terms. So, come the Inaugural Address in January of 2009, there will be no more G.W.B Jr. in the White House for good.
I know everyone should have a right to their opinions but that doesn’t keep those opinions from being wrong or full of crap or both. I don’t care where someone lives. I care more about what type of personality someone has and how likely I am to get along with that person.
People that argue about whether Democrats or Republicans are better miss the main purpose of our government all together. Our government was NOT originally set up to be a 2 party system but as a party independent system where we decide who to have as our leader by how likely that person is to run the Country the way we think it should be ran and who we think will look after our well-being the most. I’d love to see an independent win the Presidential Race for once and have Nothing get done in the Government, that way, more people in the U.S.A. can see how stupid they are for thinking that only (insert party name here) is the best at running our country. There has nor will there be a time where the Government will consist of a single party unless we all decide to vote INDEPENDENTLY of party names.
I agree with a lot of you on here. America needs to get back in shape to help lead the world (because every country expects us too) before we try to reshape other countries (it’s going to happen).
I do want to point out that the U.S.A does have to answer to the UN. We just don’t have to follow the rules as Strictly as everyone else because really, if you say we can’t do something, we could just cut our funding of the UN and then what…? We do fund the UN with the majority of it’s income and relief expenses along with sending in our only relief funds and charity food. I think if we didn’t try to give some much to everyone else we could take better care of your only problems but if we did that, we’d be tagged as Scrooges and we’d be looked at just as badly as we are now. No matter how well we plan out how we’re going to handle something, anything, we’re going to hated by someone that feels like we’re not keeping their best interests in mind.
Really, people need to make up their mind as a whole and then act accordingly. Until that happens (and I don’t ever see it being done) will we as a unified humanity accomplish great thing (no war, no hunger, no injustices).
So stop trying to blame people and just come to realize that You are part of the problem too.

George W. Bush and this conflict in Iraq are both egregious mistakes. Bush continually fails to open his mind beyond the failing military strategy in Iraq while the war itself should never had happend. The first reason is Iraq under Saddam served as our counter balance to Iran in the Middle East. As long as both remained intact they would keep each other busy. The second is the overthrow of Saddam would create a power vaccum. One that is almost impossible to stabilize due to the area consisting of several ethnic and religious groups all vying for power and out for each other’s blood. The third reason is the introduction of radical Islamic fundametalists into an area previously clean of such taint. Contrary to popular belief, Saddam, a SECULAR brutal dictator, and radical islamic terrorists did not get along. Saddam was as much their enemy as we are. We now have created a massive recruiting pool for these terroists who have since Saddam’s overthrow deeply infested the area. These terrorists in Iraq aren’t the intelligent, methodical, radicals we encountered during 9/11. These are street militia caught up in their hatred for the U.S who have stormed through their streets and brought open slaughter to their country. Had the president and his cabinet done a little more research or broadened their world view a little bit we (as in the world) may not be in this predicament.
As an American I am appalled at the ignorance that has been displayed by posters “ALEX” and “JOEY” particularly those by ALEX.

First off, The first successful British colony was Jamestown established in 1607. That would be 169 years of British control over the American colonies that would make up the foundation of our country. Now I don’t know about you but 169 years is a pretty damn long time to be as you put it “England’s bitch”. even though we “officially” ablolished slavery during the Civil War via The Emancipation Proclamation that doesn’t change the fact that African Americans were treated as second class citizens well into the 20th century. Also, slavery extends back as far as the earliest human civilizations in the Middle East. People have been enslaving each other ever since there were people to enslave (usually captives in war). As for europe being full of peasants stabbing each other… are you out of your gourd? As I recall it, Europe was anything but that. Around the time of our country’s birth the Spanish, Portuguese, and British Empires were flourishing. All of which helped to establish colonies that your ancestors came to. Oh and before I forget a little known guy by the name of Napoleon was leading his french troops to victory after victory daring to conquer large portions of the world and establish the French Empire in the early 1800s.
Oh and by the way before you start making fun of other countries economic misfortunes (particularly IRELAND’s potato famine) don’t be quick to forget the hoovervilles and bread lines of something called the Great Depression that happend right here in the U.S.
But you probably knew all that already right?

The United States is now delinquent $1.6 billion in UN dues. These arrears accumulated during several years of non-payment for peacekeeping and regular budgets for which America had voted.”
Wirthlin Worldwide did a survey for the United Nations Association of the USA. The survey asked about this line of thinking: ‘If you add in the cost of troops and services the United States has on its own provided to help peacekeeping missions, the UN should actually owe us money.’ Just under half (45 percent) said they would find this a very convincing argument for not paying UN dues.
But that argument depends on a big ‘if.’ It is if you ‘add in’ activities that were never authorized, budgeted or administered by the United Nations. Isolationists pretend the United Nations should ‘owe’ money for American troops or fighter planes or an offshore fleet over which the United Nations had no control. These are costs that its members never voted to accept. Just because your friend goes off and runs up charges on his credit card with you in mind doesn’t mean you are responsible for his credit card bill.
So No Roland, you don’t finance the UN.

Having visited the U.S last November I did have a wonderful time, staying in NYC I met lots of very nice people – a few things came to my attention.. the guide at the statue of liberty reciting how wonderful the US was to his audience, that the statue was the symbol of free nations, free speech, and the right to choose your own governments – democracy, the US so powerful and rich leading the World in to the future – blah blah blah.. a few things here.. if the US government can spend HUGE amounts of money on arms against “terror” why are there small shops in Brooklyn accepting food tokens? Why hasn’t New Orleans and the Gulf area been given the same funds to rebuild their homes and communities? Why are there still many innocent people held in Guantanemo Bay, why are there “rendition flights”? Why do so many American people live in “trailer parks” surely affordable homes could be built? Why doesn’t the Kyoto agreement apply to the US? Why have so many innocent people been killed – twin towers and Iraqi citizens, Why have so many soldiers been killed (all sides)? Why do we have an AIDS epidemic that could be relieved by medication? Why are people still living in makeshift shelters after the tsunami in Asia, or the Earthquake in Iran? Why isn’t there LOVE? Why isn’t there UNDERSTANDING? No person has the right to take another person’s life whether that be war, capital punishment or indeed lack of respect… Why, when I was in NYC did I meet a man, a Vietnam Veteran sitting in a wheelchair, homeless and looking for spare change? Wow Why oh why. Great post. Being a citizen of this once great nation I too have asked myself these same questions and more. unffortuanately we are increasingly being given one of two choices when we vote. Republicans, who openly show that they are for greed, corruption, power and war, or Democrats, who pretend to be against greed, corruption, power and war. Neither side really cares about the American people or the world population. They only care about advancing their carreers and agenda. both sides fight against allowing members of other political parties to run for office anywhere in the nation and both sides believe that the ends justify the means no matter how many people they kill or how many homeless children exist in our nation.
I believe that with the power and money we had before the war that we could have drastically decreased the poverty level of our nation, invested in improving our education system so that we could be at the forefront of science and technology, and possibly send troops to places were they could help improve the situation such as Darfur. Oh wait we would have no monetary or corporate gain by doing these things.

Firstly, you guys have to get your facts right before you go out using them to your advantage. Just to name two I stumbled upon, that George Bush never won by popular vote (he did 2nd election) and that AIDS can be healed by medication (it CAN’T and even then there are large organizations trying to prevent the spread of AIDS).
Now to what I am really saying. We go killing innocents in Iraq? Last time I checked I wasn’t the soldier with the gun in hand. Since when do you get the right to stereotype all of America as stereotypical trigger-happy war addicts? I believe that America is the greatest country that has ever been freedom-wise. Britain ruled because of conquest, America ruled because of the huge amounts of liberty and capitalism, which have no signs of disappearing (and don’t say the Patriot Act, if you have nothing to hide it shouldn’t hurt you). That Vietnam veteran that was on welfare– this a capitalistic society, if you want to be honored, you make sure you become honored, if you want to be rich, you make sure you make alot of money. That is exactly the beauty of this country, every person is not held back by the lazy or apathetic (which is the reason Communism doesn’t work). I hope you see what I am saying, but if you don’t, fine, just don’t flame America anymore.

George W. Bush like his dear ol’ pa brfore him, is just the tip of the Ice-Berg, bringing to the forefront an underlying problem with America in general. Veiled intentions on International Policies, Oil Chasing and tragic, shocking double standards all make the rest of the world wary of the ‘Great Nation’.
The very dubious goings on at a certain five sided building combined with the belief held dear to certain American people that they are indeed here to, like superman, save the world, gives America license to do as they please, answering to no-one. Now surely that would be considered a dictatorship? It would seem to me that the sword of alleged Freedom and Democracy that Dubya wields so openly is only based on the democracy of the USA, which considering the culture therein or lack of it rather is leaving the rest of the world slightly worried.
Surely one can understand why America ain’t as popular as it once was and deserved to be?

The POTUS is slow-witted. But I believe he is an abberation. We should look forward to January 20, 2009. That is when the world gets a new President. And yes, Bruce Fein was right when he correctly diagnosed Bush as aggressively ignorant instead of just being an imbicile, because if Bush was an inbicile, then he wouldn’t be accountable. But, of course; he is. But that’s enough of that. Let us look ahead and create a new world of ideas in repairing at least some of the damage that Bush has done, and moving forward; especially in Iraq. We owe it to the world to remediate as much as we can. But ideas are beginning to emerge.
Did anyone see a live discussion yesterday on C-Span from Johns Hopkins University with Michael O’Hanlon and Edward Joseph discussing a concept of a, “soft partition” of Iraq? I saw part of it. These articulate gentlemen were very interesting in fleshing out an idea for creating the two remaining states in that region of the world, such as a, “Sunistan,” and a “Shi’istan.” They said at one point in the conversation, that we already have the first of the states in existence already; Kurdistan and the Shi’ite state and the Suni states are to come.
I hope you may have caught this disscussion. The questions in the audience there in D.C. were also very intelligent. I believe this forum may have been sponsored by SAIS. Check it out if you can.

Having lived in the States long time, I noticed that Americans don’t see things happening outside of this country. This is the fault of major news media such as ABC, NBC, CBS etc. and probably education system in this country where they don’t recommend to read foreign literature such as various European and Asian novels. Actually, I’m pretty sure I said “Don’t Flame Americans”, because calling us ignorant and blaming us of being stupid and biased is flaming. I highly agree that Bush does not claim the skills to be an efficient (or at least liked) president. Our Pentagon is a place to plot against other countries for monetary gain? Of course not, our country was founded upon a 100% patriotic base, and I am more than sure that if someone working in the Pentagon, who probably really could get more money for his work, would only choose to work there if he really loved the country. I think America is far, far away from the principals on which it was founded. Of course it was founded by 100% Patriotism. Otherwise what would be the point of founding it?
America is a little bit like communism, a nice idea in principal but always open to corruption and in the end self destruction.
Sometimes the best of intentions have disastrous consequences.
I’m sure the right to bear arms was intended well, but ultimately, how many have died because guns in America are so readily available.
It amazes me that gambling is illegal in certain states, that drinking alcohol is illegal for under 21s/23s(?) Yet guns are two a penny.
And where you are sure that people in that five sided building are honest and upright and 100%, not many people outside of the US are.
You see, you might be able to con your own people with stories on the news of heroic patriotism combined with mental and educational conditioning (by the way are you still all singing the national anthem and saluting the Stars and Stripes in the morning?), but the rest of the world is privvy to the bigger pciture…the arms sales, to the innocent civilain casualties etc…or what’s the phrase you Americans use so freely…”Collateral Damage”?

Ok, you still haven’t stopped what I asked you to do in the first post. Stop stereotyping us! It is always “what do YOU Americans” “It’s all because of YOU Americans”. Guess what? How would you like it if I just concluded this whole debate by saying, “You’re just a drunk Irish man”? But I don’t. I don’t use the stereotypes to my advantage. I would be doing the exact same thing by pointing out all the problems that Ireland has, and blame it on “YOU drunkards”, that’s essentially what you’re doing. Now to the real points. The rights to own arms helps, because in every murder ever attempted, there is always a victim. And if that victim can reach a firearms, he has a much better chance of surviving (don’t just say “but the murderer wouldn’t have firearms in the first place”, because someone who blatantly disobeys the law would probably just get the gun elsewhere). On another point, I don’t see how this country leads to self-destruction. If anything, my country gives me the right to rebuild the government if it ever starts to self-destruct the country. And on a closing note, isn’t a democracy supposed to be “self-absorbed” in a sense, just by definition?

I am reading a wonderful book on the history of the leadup and conduct of WWI. For all the whining Euros who leap to criticise … you stood around in a circle setting bait and traps with no escapes begging for a major world war and you got just that. Then you let Hitler come on in WWII. Who bailed you out. Who helped rebuild the countries. Who protected the countries since. Who showed the way to developed new economies.

Firstly, in point of fact I am a drunk Irishman. This however, is not important.
Secondly, Ireland’s problems aren’t forced on the rest of the world.
Thirdly, the right to bear arms is ridicuolus. Just ask the kids at Columbine, now I know, I know, if all the kids had guns not as many would have died, right? Now if that really is your argument then you truly are missing the point completely as only a conditionalized cultureless American could. But then I guess you don’t know any better, that is my point.
Fourthly Democracy serves the appropriate land that votes. It shouldn’t be forced on the rest of the world. Americans deserve Dubya, the World Does Not.

I can only go on what or who I know,
now you have already demonstrated your opinion on a number of issues which justifies my line of thought as far as you’re concerned.
Mr Bush, also has not only demonstrated his vast and varied opinions, but also imposed them. Now, as far as a democracy that voted for him is concerned…what can my opinion be of the majority of voters in America? My apologies if making an assumption about the majority of people from a place just because the majority of people from a place put a gimp in charge, but what else can I think?
The only question I have is do Americans not see what is happening through conditioning etc. or are they genuinely mad too and believe their own bullwhack, or maybe they just don’t care? Either way, it’s a very worrying situation.

Anybody notice that the responses posted here in support of G.W. tend to be ungrammatical, poorly spelled, and often foul-mouthed? This suggests to me that at this point in our history the American population is primarily uneducated, rude, intolerant, and maybe just plain stupid. These are the people who elected Mr. Bush, and they did so because they recognize themselves in him. Unless we can find a way to re-civilize our nation, we will only get more of the same.
Thanks for the quotes. Anybody with half a brain can see the man is not adequate to the task of leading the free world. We clearly need to find a way to laugh about it, since we don’t seem to have the backbone to impeach and hold him accountable for the various fascistic and criminal acts he has committed as a result of his abject failure to understand the dual concepts of freedom and respect for others’ freedoms.

We really miss the daily quotes. Along with my morning caffeine, they give me fuel for the day. The quotes propel me to be active in electing democrats and booting out this rotten, greedy lot that stole the last two American presidential elections. Now. it seems that with Georges July 17 presidential proclaimation, people like us could be arrested, economically ruined and jailed for “harming efforts in Iraq” This seems to include the notion of “harming morale.” by expressing our opinions. I urge everyone on this post to listen to informative radio like NPR and better, Air America. I think this will make even Darragh have a better opinion of what most Americans are really thinking. We are APPAULED that this idiot is our president. We think Dick Cheny and company run the country, and that they want the Iraq war to go as long as possible so that their profit making ventures (Halliburton, Blackwater…) can continue to soar while sacrificing our American soldiers, and Iraq civilians. This is beyond tragic, it is immoral and highly illegal. They are trying to gut the constitution, and change so many laws to remain entrenched. I am praying that all the Americans on this post, your family and friends take action, call your US Representatives and Senators, demand impeachment, support John Conyers and his investigation, demand Congressional Subponeas be enforced. Give money and volunteer for Obama, Edwards or support Russ Feingold;s efforts. It saddens me that the US is thought of so poorly, based largely in part to a figurehead that the majority DID NOT vote for. Most Americans don’t support the war nor do we support Bush. His administration has destroyed the economy, created a horrible amount of unemployment, helped the rich become disgustingly wealthy while the middle class became poor and the poor lived in poverty. Children are not a priority. Education is not a priority. Health care is not a priority. Wealth is. That is why soldiers are dying, and innocents are losing their homes and their lives. The Bush administration has ruined America, both in the eyes of the world, and in the eyes of Americans.
And for the record…not all Americans are obese, uneducated, war-mongering pigs. Many of us (probably most of us) want the same thing other people worldwide want…to give our kids a good life and education, to keep our families safe, fed, and housed…I work hard, I pay taxes, I vote. Yet it hasn’t always been easy to keep my kids safe, or maintain health coverage, or even afford some comforts. Where I live, the unemployment rate is so sky high that no amount of college degrees will get a job. Private health coverage costs are insane, and the cost of living far exceeds the rate of income. I did not vote for Bush in either election. I do not support the murder of innocents. I am very angry that America has taken it up the ass by our own government, and it disgusts me that people like Paris Hilton are somehow role models! And for the record, as long as people are so completely closed minded and bigoted there will never be peace or true democracy anywhere in the world. And I say this to everyone, not just Americans. There is hatred and discrimination and bigotry in all corners of our world, and until we get off our asses and reach out to a neighbor in need, hold out a hand to someone who has fallen, and stop putting the almighty dollar before love, kindness and respect, the whole world will continue to go to hell. The Bush administration is a perfect example of the narrow-mindedness that I speak of.

Actually, while no amount of laughs will change how things are currently, it does help fight the absolute horror that such a jackass is actually in office. And believe me, ALL of my like-minded friends vote…and none of us voted for Dubya…not in 2000 or 2004!!! The sad thing is how far the corruption goes, which is why I am at least thankful for the shake-up on Capital Hill this past election. Now if we could only get rid of the Bush administration sooner than 2008…

Although he does provide my best laughs everyday which will sorely be lost. To the best of my knowledge (I slept through PoliSci) Arnold cannot become President, something to do with his foreign born status or something. However, unfortunately, we seem to have an endless supply of idiots chomping at the bit to become prez. Secondly in 2008 we may get someone slightly better than Dubya, but often the voting process becomes “the lesser of 2 evils”…unless of course you ARE Dubya and rig the whole thing. Many of us here are disheartened by the whole process and are trying a grass-roots effort to change things…then on the other side, we have the sheep who blindly follow, thinking things cannot be changed, or their word, vote, whatever won’t matter. Those are the people who need to be reached and educated. Just give America time folks, a lot of us ARE trying to change things for the better.

The US is a great country, like every other one it has its proud and not so proud moments. the reason the US stirs such emotion is because when it gets things wrong it tends to effect millions of people. ie the ‘puppet government’ policy which some say is STILL in opperation (see the Middle East and Africa for examples). South America is only now starting to pick up the pieces and rebuild ‘natural’ democracys rather than the imposed ones by the US involvment.
Remember that when the US has a president that doesn’t believe in starting a war to boost the economy (of his friends) the world does see the US as the country it should be, peace loving, just and true. However put in another bully president which invades other sovern states (resons are irelivant, it was wrong and criminal, are you listening Tony?) the US will find itself standing alone. Yes it is a great and powerful country but it could hearld in the next political age which sees the US and Europe (along with the rest of the world already) being at logger heads. while G. Brown is of course gonna do all he can to keep the US as friends he’s no Tony and if England cools ties with the US it could be the trigger to begin a chain reaction.
At this very moment there is a US commentator speaking on Irish radio about how Iraq was planning to invade europe, he also said that the native Americans didn’t suffer under the white man. There still out there people and it scares me!!!!

while i can only speak for myself i am certainly not anti american and i believe the vast majority of people here are not either. what i am most certainly is anti bush and his administration. i believe he is a war monger. i believe US forigen policy has lead to interference and invasion of the poorest countrys.
i believe because of our weak leaders in Europe we are hated by the east because they follow the ruin that has been caused by these policies. People are people and most are good and just want to live and be happy but there are some with pure evil in them, unfortunatilly some of these people get power, don’t be fooled just cos they wear suits, speak english or kneel infront of a cross.

while I am not saying that Clinton was any saint but when he visited Ireland he got a very warm welcome, yes their were protests but they were held in a proper fashion, no running battles, George visited for an EU summit and they nearly locked the country down for security reasons, there were protests cos he was coming, protests cos he was here and protests after he left, this is not anti american, this is anti bush and his empire building buddies

I believe “whatevers” comments were directed at me and not the group in general. I remember the old “love it or leave it” line from the Vietnam war days. Don’t recognize our faults, don’t try to change things for the better, and for heavens sake don’t have any opinions of your own, just love it or leave it. By the end of the Vietnam war our country realized we’d been lied to by our government. Lesson learned? Nope! “Whatever” is the same kind of closed mind thinking that’s been running this country for the last seven years.
I like what you have to say and the way you say it but let’s not forget the untold fortunes to be made in the munitions manufacturing and other war related industries as well as all of his Texas oil buddies. War is great for the economy (ours anyway) it’s just bad for those that get in the way.
There’s been many posts about Bush being elected twice. He was only elected once. The second election was won by tampering, manipulation, and outright crookedness, NOT the popular vote. My belief is that Clinton just had a charisma to him that everyone liked. I believe he was the one that had us all fooled. When the lime light was on him and his affair outside of his marriage, he shot off a bomb to get that lime light off of himself. They were talking about impeaching him. Now it’s Bush that you hear people here wanting to impeach. All of us will never be happy, and that is what makes the world go round. It really bothers me that people think that is was wrong for us to go into Iraq though. I mean what was Sadamm going to do next? Why is it ILLEGAL to photograph or film all the caskets coming back home?

No, I’m not even close to a Michael Moore follower. His views are really
one sided. He makes some valid points but there are no opposing opinions. Yes Cuba’s free medical care is nothing short of a complete
joke. It’s much more propaganda than real medicine.
When I mentioned the debates, I am not talking about the medias reporting of it but rather the words that are being spoken by the candidates themselves. I’ve learned at least one thing over the years and that’s that the media has their own objectives.
Yes, Sadam has killed over half a million people at least but I spoke of the outright indescriminate gassing of 5,000 at one event, not a running total.
No doubt he was evil and needed to be taken out, but he was not the worse.
I’d been a registered repulican all my life until George came along and then I reregistered non-partisan. I liked his dad but he really needed to finish the job.
If you get the time to google “a century of genocide” and “love it or leave it” there’s a lot of information that might be of interest. They even have Richard Nixon listed under genocide, not for the millions that died as an act of war but rather the 70,000 women and children that died in the rice fields under his blanket bombing in his total submission campaign.
Lastly, welcome to the United States and thank you for becoming a citizen rather than just being here and not helping to make it a better place. It’s our right to dissagree and we’re just exercising that right. I love my country more than you could ever know but It needs constant attention to keep it working as it should. Question authority!

A “happy” president makes a good president.
Kennedy is considered one of the greats, whose presidency was sadly cut too short. Clinton had a great record, low unemployment rates, high interest earnings, a stable economy, relative peace…
There is something to be said for the president getting his groove on, and often.
I think it should be mandatory for a president (male or female) to get their jollies a minimum of 5x/week. Hell, I’d be happy to sign off some of my tax money to hire some pro’s to travel with the prez and get the prez happy.

Who are ye to say that it was ‘right’ to ‘take out’ Saddam?
Is it right to invade a country unprovoked? Yes he was an evil man but lets face it folks if you drew up a list of nations and leaders where the government ‘should be taken out’ because of crimes against its population the middle east would only be half way up the list.
Ask the tens of thousands of dead Iraqis was the invasion welcomed. All it did was open the gates for a civil war and for the US to have a base over there. Even the most avid pro war monger will admit that each and every reason for invasion has now been proven false. Nuclear attack in 30 minutes? My ass!!!
Remember the marches across the globe against invasion? Remember the Millions and Millions who saw through the lies who were being called unpatriotic who have been proven right? So now the defence for invading a Sovereign Nation is that he wasn’t very nice…

I have witnessed war zones and trust me they look nothing like they do on TV they rip and tear at every soul and every life involved. We are like the upper-class of the middle ages while empire building was under way, sitting in our comfy homes smiling at each other from a great distance while a slaughter is underway in our name, the reasons then are the same as now. ‘Invasion is necessary and good for them, they are only animals who are a danger to us and just need our leadership’. If you read a history book of that time its like reading newspaper articles today, same reasons and rhetoric different time.

I couldn’t agree more that we shouldn’t be there now. I also stated he was not the worse dictator in the world and if that was our logic then we should have taken out Korea, China, Iran, and others first. Point taken about your view. It just maddens me when people say that Iraq needed to be sorted out ‘but not this way’. There was no insult intended abd i understand your arguments.
I find it strange that Iraq invaded Kuait for no other reason other than land and oil. They get 10 years of sanctions and bombed back to the dark ages etc etc etc. The US invades Iraq for the same reasons and they are ‘freedom fighters on a just cause with god on their side’
We in Ireland protested and objected to our goverment about allowing the US troops use our airports for the war, which they are still doing to this day. We are supposed to be neutral, the argument was that we were maintaining our neutrality by not ‘actively’ taking part. I wonder if Iraq wanted to use our airports to bomb the US or any other country would our defination of neutrality be so flexable? this is what I mean by US forigen Policy interfering in other countries even ‘friendly’ ones.
It wouldn’t happen in a soap opera.

I must say the greens are enjoying their time in the spot light, they must realise that this is their one and only chance. I am amused by their arguments with Labour and FG, a few weeks ago they couldn’t agree more with them over issues and now they are like long lost big brothers of bertie coming to his rescue at every turn.
Gormley and his buddies discust me. they were all talk about a new type of politics and they just slid in. washing their hands of the Tara fiasco as well as the Shell oil refinary. What can one do?

We have a bent, self serving, business hungry, f*** society attitude government who not only broke thier pre-election promises like new year resilutions but brought the green party in with them who have amoung other moves have introduced incinerators to our country for the first time (as well as building a motorway through the hill of tara where the Kings of Ireland were based as well as it holding prehistoric temples etc, increasing landfill sites, allowing unsocial housing projects to contiinue etc etc) basically selling off their ethos and ethics for a government seat and hefty wage packet, and for what? to pass acts which the government would have to pass anyway.
why did the government bring in the greens? to shut them up, they can actually do less green work if any work is credited to the greens, therefore a few acts passed the greens are happy and the unsaviory acts as mentioned above get through because thats the price you pay to get into government…
A lot to be said for revolution when the most ‘radical’ party is in goverment and becomes the new standard of goverment betrail.
So basicly our small country is nothing more than a microcosim of what is going on internationaly….

Well in terms of the Dems…Billary Clinton has an edge because the American people, for the most part, liked having Bill in office (we had a great economic run)…and he would be First Hubby, so in a way, he’d be back in office. Can she handle the job? She has had YEARS of political history. She was an attorney, a Governor’s wife, a First Lady, a Senator…she got a cult following with her children’s causes and medical reformation causes. And that still is something that sways me towards her. Now Obama…he has Oprah. Queen of the world. She has the Midas Touch and then some. If Oprah said today is a day to fart loudly in public, folks would do just that. I don’t know much about Obama. He doesn’t have a long political history. He does have an interesting personal history, but will that be enough to convince folks he can handle some major sh*t?? Last I checked, he also has George Clooney on his side. Oprah and George…that is a possible one-two punch for all the sheep of America. These 2 are fairly neck to neck in polls, depending on the day of week. Now the sleeper hit is John Edwards. This is a man who wants medical reform. His wife after all has incurable cancer and is likely to die in a couple years. He wants to help the poor and lower class of America. He does not have anyone with muscle or charisma backing him. He does have years of political experience though, and if a grassroots effort can get his name out there better, he may actually reach the poor and lower class he claims he wants to help.
Now the Repubs have Giulliani. A so-called hero after 9/11. Barring that though, his record was not always golden. Then there is uber-conservative Huckabee. Well Chuck Norris is endorsing him right, so he must be good??? He wanted to put AIDS patients into basically a quarantine so they wouldn’t infect the rest of us. Nice guy. He didn’t care HOW the disease was contracted. He has a very strong stance on immigration, illegal and legal. Then there is Fred Thompson. He was a politico, and an actor on a very successful TV drama series. Hey he must be good!!!
In all, the race is about who has the clout behind them. Will Oprah beat out Bill C? Will Giulliani, 9/11 hero beat out Chuck Norris or a TV actor and former politician? Will there even be a world left to have a US election once Dubya gets done with his business?
I am hoping that this site picks up steam and gets people thinking.

In all honesty, I would vote a Billary/Obama ticket…but having to vote Billary or Obama…idk. Billary has the political skills and Obama has the diplomatic skills. His “humble” beginnings matched with her ideas for medical reform and school reform may actually bring the US back to the US. Make things start at home for a change rather than be in everybody else’s business. That would be a nice and welcomed change! John Edwards, while a longshot may still be a contender with Obama and Billary cancelling each other out. I have actually said for quite some time that if Billary took Obama on her ticket as VP, they would have a really strong chance at the voting booths. Whether it would happen in reality…can’t say, but if I had my druthers, that would be my ticket of choice to votefor.

It’s funny to see people mocking conspiracy theorists and backing it up with the fact that Bush was “elected”.
That’s not going to mean a /thing/ to a supposed theorist, if they believe that the polls are rigged.
Now, anyone with a brain and the will can look up and /find/ the information to prove that elections have been rigged since /Lincoln/. Let me just say this: If there are ANY Americans (or otherwise) that has had the unfortunate day arrive, where a man shows up in uniform and delivers the message that thier loved one has been killed in Iraq, and that American (or otherwise) were to STILL claim that George Bush is a Great Leader. They are very, very naive. It’s a sad deal when things like that happen. It would be easier to lose a loved in combat, if they were fighting on OUR soil, a war that threatened the integrity of the lives of the innocent.

Ive been sitting here wondering why everyone has been slamming everyone else’s country. I read where someone wrote that America is the Number One country in the world. I have to ask: Have you been to another country to see their beauty? I, for one, know that Scotland is a very nice place to be. It is a little cold and quite rainy, but it is still a magnificent place to be. I’ve never been to Ireland, but I’m sure it is quite nice. I read where someone said, “At least America was not England’s Bitch!” As true as that might seem…why the hell do we speak ENGLISH THEN, FUCKER?
Australia is a very nice place to drink a beer and “get pissed with the bloaks!” The sheilas aren’t too bad to look at either, but here’s my opinion…if anyone can say that their country is the best to live in, but every morinig they wake up and say they need a vacation to somewhere nice, try going to another country and as you stand in the airport before leaving there, look back on your stay. If you can honestly tell yourself, you had NO fun, NO interest, then you do need to stay home and never come out of your homes again. Yes, “W” is an idiot. But point out to me a country where everyone likes their leader, or whatever. Hi All.
I have just finished reading this entire blog from top to bottom. I laughed a lot and cried a little as well at some of the postings. In my humble opinion, America has no business in trying to solve the problems of the rest of the world. Nobody will ever thank them for trying to do so. That said, the American people as a whole can hardly be held accountable for the choices and actions of a select few (namely the government). I live in South Africa where we have been reduced to a one party state which is blatantly comunistic in spite of claiming to be a democracy. Our constitution has been changed to allow racism to be written into it, yet the racism is one sided. If America’s president Bush is looking for a new war conquest in the next year, could I volunteer South Africa? (Seeing as America’s government was responsible for beginning the avalanche which ended in our current predicament – does the term Apartheid ring any bells?). Lastly, I would love to leave my adoptive country as I most certainly do not love it, but sadly I can never go home due to having skin the color of ivory. Home for me would be a small country lovingly remembered as Rhodesia (Now called Zimbabwe – another nomination for being fixed by anyone….please?). I would make an application to move to America, but sadly I will not be considdered for emigration to their soil due to the fact that my current country is run by a terrorist organisation. I do not understand the logic behind this, but I know several people who were not even allowed to holiday in America due to our government being listed as a terrorist organisation to America. They are not wrong in this, but not all resident of this country follow the leanings of our corrupt government. So this is my request to America: Please let those of us who want to leave South Africa behind, have the option of calling your shores home? And in closing, I would like to simply say, be grateful for the small mercies which you have. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Yes, war is hell on everyone involved, but living under oppression can be worse. Just my humble opinion.

The plan is simple, influence through whatever means necessary world politics, social and economic affairs. This is not fiction nor paranoia its widely stated and written about. Its a policy which has been applied with various levels or enthusiasm in the last half century or so.
England had the same tactic in the past number of centuries as did every colonial power on the planet. (as an Irish man it is my duty to slag England in particular at every opportunity, for further information please ref any Damian Dempsey song). So for this point, there is nothing special about GW, we weren’t to happy with daddy bush nor Raygun Reagan either.
Its nothing about the US per se, neither the weather in Scotland nor were I go on holidays, none of these have any bearing on my feelings about the US foreign policy and its negative input into world affairs. Its about puppets like GW propagating a relentless war on any establishment other than aggressive American capitalism (and no I’m not advocating for a new world order, though when I rule the world things will be much different…). And yes most countries have a similar agenda but face it outside Russia and a select few none are as invasive as the US.
The difference being those countries ARE dictatorships the US under GW holds itself up as the protector of goodness, free speech, etc when its not, it invades, destroys and forces itself on other nations… that is why we have the right to comment on your government. If they feel it necessary to have an input into my life and my countries policies then you may be sure I’m going to sit up and take an interest in your countries power base.
So to get back to the point, yes we all bleed red but not all of us have a government which insists on trampling around the globe, army first and McDonalds second, interfering in other countries socio-economic and political structures for their own paranoid power hungry desires… Nate…

So sorry you weren’t feeling well. It is that season for us here too. My daughter has been down with a severe cold, and now she has passed it on to me. It is so great to feel so lousy. You really have a way of putting things so it is easy to empathize. (empathise). But it is worth mentioning here. You said in your last entry that it is your duty as an Irishman to slang England. B- that would be quite alright with me. My descendents were the group of Scots known as the Clan Morrison. They were the Highlanders that joined forces with William Wallace to fight for the freedom of Scotland from the English when the English decided to be like America. (Control, Change, and try to look good while doing it) It was because of the economy in Scotland after their reign, that Clan Morrison moved to Ireland. And it was because of the potato famine that brought them here. But, the hell with that. How are you?
I guess I do have a different way of communication. I have been told that many times. All I can do is embrace it. Metaphors are my way of overstressing a point i.e. “…if you think you are better than anyone else, jump off of a fucking bridge, see if you fly!” I have never claimed to be better than anyone else. But while you read this you may look back on my first entry when I tried to correct spelling. Here is the reason for that.
I have no idea why it is that THIS COUNTRY likes to claim we are so much better than anyone else. “We have the strongest Army” (for which I used to serve…hated it) “We have the best jobs” “Immigrants are flocking to this country because we have more money to pay them” “We have the best schools” Well, if all this were true, why the shit, can’t these people spell words as simple as country? Maybe I just don’t understand why Language Arts are so hard for people to understand, because it isn’t hard for me. If they took all but one subject out of school, it should NOT be Language Arts. This is needed for success. I work in a prison where a 29 year old inmate was asked why he hadn’t read the new policies. He stated, “I would, but I can’t read..” but this man knows the sport of football front and back, basketball the same. This tells me that this country is not doing their damned job. Our country pays it’s teachers an average annual salary of $27,560.00. Isn’t that ridiculous? And for the teachers that had me in class, that was WAY UNDERPAID! I was a little shit in class, I was, but I listened. I embraced what they were there to do, and for that, those teachers deserved a lot more than what they were given.
I believe you can tell a country’s priorities when you look at salaries.
Just compare the salary of a Professional Football Player, to a SOLDIER!
A Major League Baseball Player’s to a TEACHER’S!
Our Men are over in Iraq, dying for a lost cause, receiving body armor from the Army that pays the lowest bidder to do the job and we are here in America, sitting in our lawn chairs down at Cape Kennedy, watching NASA as it launches another 3 Million dollar mission to space to see if maybe one day, we can not only invade our planet’s countries, but A WHOLE NEW PLANET!
America’s priorities are screwy. I doubt they will ever change, but I guess we will see.

I hear ya, our society (western) has managed to (within reason) rid itself of war; as in New York isn’t gearing up for an armed invasion of San Francisco, nor are the forces of Rome massing in the hope of reviving the old Roman Empire… this is not to deny tribal warfare elsewhere in the world, nor the many inter governmental wars currently ongoing but it’s a given that society was a bit more violent in the past… anyway, it sometimes amazes me that we have socially evolved to where we are today and yet, relatively speaking what advantages have we secured? A better world of modern medicine, travel and communication… (but inherited a sense of loss, dissatisfaction, stress, alienation etc etc) other than that, is our lot much more improved than that of pervious generations? Surly our society should be striving for a life of simple happiness rather than securing oil supplies and 34’’ plasma TV’s, It reminds me of a story I heard many moons ago, I’m sure most of ye have come across it…
An elderly gent is walking along the river bank one warm summers day and happens across a young man thrown out on his back, fishing rod planted in the water, half asleep half awake, but happy out. The young man tilts his head and gives the gent a wink that says ‘this is great isn’t it!!!’ the gent stops and the two get chatting.
The gent discovers that the man is in his early 20’s and has never ‘distinguished’ himself in any manor worth noting, the gent being of the ‘work hard’ school of thought is aghast at the sluggish attitude of this young pup…

I like that story. I see it happen again, and again when I go fishing. I see men show up with expensive 4X4’s that are absolutely SPOTLESS, shiny, brand new. Towing a boat, the same details as the truck. Yet, when they come back, they have the same size fish I do. They have spent lots of money for fuel to drive around on the water, and they shouldn’t have been doing either because they are now too drunk to be driving anywhere. As this may seem like I didn’t fully grasp your story, I did.
I sit in a chair I bought for $10.00, I’m not sure how much that turns out to be in Ireland, but it’s about the same as a gallon and a half for gas. (Note the sarcasm) I use a fishing pole I bought for >$20.00. I don’t have a live well either. I use a $1.00 stringer. I drink beer while I fish, but you can’t kill someone from a lawn chair because lawn chairs don’t travel at high speeds.
But those fishermen have worked so hard to get themselves the things that they have, just to end up in the same place doing the same thing that actually turns out to be more of a burden.
I have made a lot of money, I have caught a lot of fish, but nothing has made me happier than just sitting down, relaxing and understand that all things will come when they are ready to. A man can control his destiny, but if, everyday, a man lives his whole life in just one day, he has missed what his life was all about. And that’s very sad.

#1) I agree with the Obama for president. 100%.
#2) Redeem ourselves? From what? The fact that GW Bush was appointed to the White House for both terms? How can this be the fault of Americans?
#3) “Walk towards the light.” A term often used to tell someone that they are an idiot. How can you assume that we don’t already know where the “light” is? How can you assume that the asshole running our reputation into the ground, to the rest of the world, be something WE would be proud of?
There are a number of Bush lovers out there, but ONE THING should be noted: This man is the President of our country, but he IS NOT the president of me, nor the rest of the Americans that have had to hang thier head in shame for the fact that we have been faulted by the rest of the world, for his idiocy. What he has done is not what we ALL would have done. Think about that before you label one group of foreigners to ONE bad stereotype.
It can be said that the Irish love potatoes and beer. Does that mean everyone in Ireland is a Potato and Beer Glutton? Absolutely not. I’m sure you have people in your country that don’t like potatoes, or for that matter, beer. I just received in the mail, a letter from the IRS. (Internal Revenue Service)
The opening sentence says, “We are pleased to inform you that the United States Congress passed and PresidentGeorge W. Bush signed into law the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, which provides for economic stimulus payments to be made to over 130 million American households.” It goes on to say, “Under this new law, you may be entitled to a payment of up to $600 ($1,200 if filing a joint return), plus additional amounts for each qualifying child.”
Not that I am complaining about extra money, because I would never be so stupid as to bitch about something like that, but this seems to me, like a way for the president to leave a statement for the Republicans, as he leaves office. It is easy to BUY votes for a political party by sending money to most of every American family because from the rest of the letter, I draw the conclusion that it will be next to impossible to NOT receive a payment.
Isn’t this just like a parent bribing children to stay with them during a divorce? That’s how I see it. My mind will not change. “W” caused a lot of tears to hit the floor with each soldier that died for his war, money will not change my mind for the political vote. If they only gave this money to those that voted Rep. they could have it back.
Not sure how everyone else feels, but I, for one, like the idea of extra money, but the Reps. could have done something better to promote thier party for the White House.

This is WAY off the topic of politics, but I just read that chewing tobacco is illegal in Ireland. How can this be, when America could NEVER pull off such an outlandish law? Do you know if the reasoning behind it would be the hygenics? Or because Irish think it is altogether discusting? To some, it may be, but to Southern Americans, (meaning Americans from the south of the U.S.) it is nothing more than a smoker enjoying a cigarette after a meal.
I chew tobacco and I work in a prison. The Missouri Department of Corrections does not condone the use, they forbid it amongst offenders and staff, but some still do. Myself included. I find it VERY hard to see how Ireland can pass such a law. Let me know your point(s) of view on this topic. Talk to you later.

A friend recently sent me the link to this site. Yes, I love the Bush quotes and stupidity too, and follow them avidly, but this discussion has been even more interesting. I’ve just finished reading the whole thing – including admiration for the bouldwacker’s insights and tears at some of Mossman’s experiences of a life most Westerner’s will luckily never meet personally.
However, it’s sure died down recently. Is that because it’s become almost a private chat site between three or four posters? What has happened to the discussions on the woes of American politics and the fervour to improve things, strong in the postings from around October/November? A site like this could also be used to do a lot of good: the Bush-isms make us laugh, but none of us would be reading this if we weren’t somewhat interested in politics and ideals too.
I am going to stir up a wasps’ nest and issue a challenge to all you well-informed citizens living in America (I live in Germany now and don’t know enough of what’s going on):
LET’S CHANGE THINGS!
A lot of people posted above recognise there are problems with the current US government (I would hate to give Bush sole “credit”), but I recurrently hear the comments:
“At least we have an election coming up – things will get better.”
or “We can’t change it anyway – we didn’t vote for him.”
Hmm…
My motto is, “If you can’t change it, don’t complain.” I’m not advocating complacency, just pointing out there is an awful lot more that can be done than most people think. Why wait for the election to improve things? Why say, “it’s not our fault?” Collectively, it IS the fault of the American people – no-one individually, but still everyone together.
So what can be done?
It’s true that two-party politics doesn’t really represent what people want, and is susceptible to powerful (business) interests. Do we just sit down and vote for “the lesser of two evils” like good little children? Or can we make our voices heard despite politics?
Most individual people are concerned with social issues affecting them and other people, rather than the profits guiding big (inter)national concerns, and individuals can mean a lot more than we think. Governments don’t want to be seen to look bad and won’t go against general opinion too blatantly if they want to be re-elected. So how can we get at the real issues people want, and make them known?
I’ve been reading about a site in Australia called GetUp. It’s a grass-roots movement taking advantage of the best traits of the modern world – the power of internet to unite people from all ways of life – to gather opinions on what real people really want and tell the politicians in a way that cannot be ignored. Their biggest success so far was a campaign for better health care for indigenous people in Australia, who have a life expectancy 20 years lower than white Australians. Left to the Australian government, this issue had been ignored for years, but GetUp raised public awareness, advertised, collected signatures and broad support, gathered funds, consulted experts, made a plan and then presented a whole solution and economic strategy in a way that the government had to acknowledge.

Mine is showing up just fine. It would be no surprise if the CIA did infiltrate the site though.
One of the dumbest things he has said was, “There’s an old saying in Tennessee…well…probably in Tennessee, I know it’s in Texas…Fool me once, shame on… shame on you…fool me twice…you…you can’t get fooled again!” That HAS to be the stupidest thing ever said by anyone anywhere in any position of employment, but especially the President.
On to other topics, my wife and I just had our second and last child on Friday the 16th of May. She is a doll, but it is needed for me to say, that I am so apologetic to my children for the way the economy will be when they are my age. I think I will strongly urge my kids to learn how to use a lasso and hitch a ride to school because in the coming years, (and it WILL happen) the school districts in America will begin charging parents some type of expense for diesel if your child needs to ride the bus to school. Isn’t this a sad fact?? It costs money to do things. Everything. But going to school to learn something shouldn’t be one of them. Education is as important as it gets, and having to PAY for our children to get to and from school is just ridiculous. But it is a fact that all Americans must accept.
I was recently reading a book called, “Custer and Crazy Horse” in the book they talk about how the White Man moved in, made the Natives move out and if they refused, thier lives would pay the cost. We ALL should have seen the “price rapes” coming. It will happen again and again until we are all divided into groups of poor and rich. As each will get more of what they are. SAD. Just sad. It is typical of the rich Americans to see nothing beyond their bank accounts and what they have, to prove their dignity in the economy.
Another thing…on that dreadful day of 9-11-01 I was getting ready to ship off to the Army. I was walking by a gas station when I noticed that gas was $1.26 per gallon. I went to class, and then the planes were crashed. Class was cancelled for the duration of the day and when I walked back to my hotel room, that same gas station had jacked their prices to $3.53 per gallon. The police were at the station telling the manager that by order of the Mayor, those prices need to be reduced to their original prices because this was considered “price gouging”… well, almost 7 years later the prices are where they were that day. What the hell is the difference between now and then? American life isnt as good as eveyone seems to think it is. Our Government sucks big horse cock. We pay Professional Athletes outrageous wages but pay our teachers shitty.
We pay our musical entertainers millions but we pay our soliders and sailors shit. C’mon American government…I can’t be the only person to think that is crazy!!!

No problem. Hey- you know what?? Have you ever thought about the fact that Democrats have the majority of the House of Representatives? I mean no disrespect towards them, but it makes ya think, is it the WHOLE government doing this to gas prices? Or is it solely the Pres.? Because when you think about it, here in America, we have the 2/3rds veto. If the president is presented a new Bill, Congress has the ability to veto it before he has a chance to sign it. So it makes you think a little…or I should say, “me.”
Oh well, we are all taking it up the tailpipe. Jon- does Ireland price gas by the litre or the gallon? Because I know that if it goes by litre then you all are getting raped. (Figuratively speaking) I cant rememeber how many litres there are in a gallon, but that’s neither here nor there.
In America, we are paying approximately $3.69 a gallon. That is only in Missouri, I dont know about California and the outside states.
So, back to the Bush thing, Yes, he is a stupid man. He has no idea how to use the English language, but he does know how to manipulate the American People. There still are some Americans that think he is next to God. I wonder if, as they pay that price for gas if they think he is still as great? Clinton may have gotten some sucky sucky, but he didn’t cost very many lives in a useless war. He didn’t cause Americans to pay more for gas than they made in an hour of work…if they filled up their tanks. He didn’t make such stupid decisions that cost many an American a life of misery. So many people wanted to impeach him because of that head deal, but no one has said a word about impeaching that jerk we have in office now. Damn, if my brother dies in Iraq, I will be the first dude in America to stand night and day outside the White House to tell everyone that comes in and goes out that the man they serve took the life of a man that had a family to care for. They serve a man that has done the SAME DAMNED thing he hanged Saddam Hussein for. GENOCIDE! It’s a sad deal that I have lost two friends for that war, and not a damned thing has been done to “restructure their government” or “seek weapons of mass destruction”!
Damn this war, damn that man that killed so many fathers, mothers, sister, brothers, sons and daughters! He is a serial killer, he just never comitted the crimes first-hand! I’m going to bed now that I am so pissed! Good night!

Haven’t you heard? The radical left is responsible for gas prices being the atrocity they are. Don’t you see? With gas so expensive, people will be FORCED to buy GREEN…. hybrid, electric, biodiesel and whatnot. >:)

Great work!!! I’ve got a clue about Bush’s strange use of the English language.
If I cut and paste a Bush quote into the “Convert English to Yoda-Speak” utility, the Yoda-Speak translation make sense!!!
For Example, the Bush quote “I knew it might put him in an awkward position that we had a discussion before finality has finally happened in this presidential race.” translates to “I knew it might put him in an awkward position that we had a discussion. Finally happened in this presidential race, before finality has. Hmmmmmm.”

If you want to say we voted him in…I guess I could understand why you would think so being that we tell the World that we are a Democracy. If you want to know the truth, that man and his daddy’s republican buddies just pulled a few strings and BAM! W is the president. Then 2004 elections…John Kerry…a few more strings and BAM! Again.
Mark my words: This is The Year of the Democrat. But when it looks as if Obama will take office…BAM! It’ll be Ole Mac in the White House. We’ll see it every election year until the Reps and their buddies have stuffed all of their pockets full of our money so full that they can no longer walk through a Subway Terminal without getting stuck, while we sit there waiting for a subway to work because gas prices will have reached $5.00 a gallon by next summer.
So…BAM! Like that, it was history starting from 2000.

People wonder how Jr. could have been elected President of this Republic not once – but twice! My friends, the answer is simple. We are a representative democracy. Therefore, we aspire to elect the lowest common denominator, and, to meet this standard, our representatives must be mediocre. A case in point would be the 1970 nomination of G. Harrold Carswell for justice of the Supreme court. The ABA (American Bar Association) stated unequivocally that Carswell was an incompetent jurist and not qualified to serve as a supreme court justice.
Our conservative champion of prairie egalitarianism, United States Senator, Roman Rhuska of Nebraska, came to Carswell’s defense stating in no uncertain terms that “[e]ven if he were mediocre, there are a lot of mediocre judges and people and lawyers. They are entitled to a little representation, aren’t they, and a little chance? We can’t have all Brandeises Frankfurters and Cardozos.”

American democracy is broken and corrupt. The sad part is that noone is too upset by this. We need the people to reclaim control because any government, over time, must take more rights from it’s citizens to remain effective. We need to revolt and re-establish the consitution.

I hated him so much in his presidential time, but I still have a huge respect for our George W. BUSH…
This is for two reasons:
- I hated him, as he stood as idiots’ top gun politician; a real cowboy of the old times, who tried to solve even World’s simple things with a gun around his waist: a president lost in space, heroes of those Harry Potter’s main actors that defeat…;
- I loved him, as he was a real genius playing, as a president, all sorts of roles given to him. Without any doubt, he will be the best and immortal comedian if he starts being involved with cinematography.
