The X-Box Media Centre Project IV: A surprising twist
To cut a long story short – I bought the correct version of MechAssault. I borrowed a USB stick from Joel that was compatible with my X-Box. I copied the MechInstaller savegames over. I then successfully booted into linux, telneted into the X-Box hard drive, and proceeded to corrupt all the files attempting to downgrade my Dashboard to the required version.
I then decided to open up the X-Box to solder the BIOS, flash it, and perform a permanent linux install. This is where the twist comes in.
My X-Box has a mod chip! All I need to do to install linux is to insert the disk, and Voila!
Since then, I have downloaded a rescue disk, restored my X-Box drive, written over the drive with the Evo-X dashboard, and am now preparing to install Gentoo.
Hopefully this will be ready before we leave for the farm…
