Iguana marketing

So, by now we are all familiar (and getting bored) with the Iguanagate story. Politician gets drunk, threatens staff, falsifies legal documents, and gets hounded by the press for weeks afterwards. Meanwhile, the Iguana Nightclub enjoys unprecedented levels of free publicity. The problem is, the story will soon blow over, and they will go back to relative obscurity.

What better time, therefore, to add to the hype and build up your business by introducing a new slogan?

Alison Lebanese Cuisine

I went to a party on Friday and had an early night Saturday, so I’ll have to skip my usual pub review. Here’s something different.

Alison Lebanese Cuisine is located at 169 Alison Rd Randwick. My girlfriend an I arrived at about 7:30pm on Saturday night. Alison’s was almost empty, and another Lebanese place up the street was full. However, we were unimpressed by the appearance of the dishes in the other place, plus the clientele seemed to be Eastern Suburbs wankers who wouldn’t know labneh if it smacked them in the face.

The interior was, as my girlfriend put it, exactly the wrong mix of tacky and classy. Well presented tables contrasted the almost random selection of art on the walls. A radio cranked the sounds of the 80s through the room. Our host was from south-east Asia, and definitely not Lebanese.

We decided to go all out, and ordered:

• 2 mixed Platters
  • Hommos [sic]
  • Babaganouj
  • Tabloui
  • Lady Fingers
  • Fried Kebbeh
  • Kafta Skewer
  • Falafel
  • Coriander Potato
• Kebbeh Nayeh (raw minced lamb with crushed wheat, onion, mint and olive oil)
• Fried Eggplant
• Cabbage Roolls [sic]
• Rice Chicken

As the food began to come out, we were slightly unimpressed with the size of the portions – especially the dips and tabouli. However, by about halfway through the meal I was struggling for room, and dish after dish of delicious food kept on coming out of the kitchen. The highlight was definitely the Kibbeh Nayeh, followed by the Kafta skewers.

Great food, dodgy atmosphere, expensive but worth it.
